How to Start Home Care Agency or Skilled Services Agency in Virginia?
You need to go through the Home Care Organization (HCO) licensing process with the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) and complete the following steps:
- Register your business with the Virginia State Corporation Commission and receive your Tax ID (EIN) from the IRS.
- Assemble your management team to meet Virginia requirements: you must have a qualified Administrator and a Registered Nurse (RN). RN is required for non-skilled and skilled services Agencies.
- Develop all Policies and Procedures and Operating Forms in compliance with the State regulations.
- Submit your HCO License Application Package with All required documents:
- an application, a business plan with an operating budget, samples of your Policies and Procedures, job descriptions and resumes for your Administrator and Nursing Director, evidence of your professional and liability insurance and a surety bond, and evidence of your office occupancy.
- Get ready and pass your on-site State licensing survey.
- Receive your HCO License after successfully passing the survey!
